Venous insufficiency is a medical condition and in many cases the evaluation and treatment of the underlying problems veins is a covered medical benefit under most insurance plans. Patients must first conduct a trial of conservative therapy with exercise, anti-inflammatory medications, compression hose and weight loss, if appropriate, and based on their response to the trial, may be candidates for definitive therapy. We will compose a letter of medical necessity for all of our patients which will be submitted to the insurance carrier for preauthorization (if required by the specific insurance carrier). If not required, we will keep this letter on file in your record in case it is requested in the future.
