Advanced Diagnosis at Vein Specialists

At Vein Specialists, the diagnostic process for PCS is precise and efficient, using the latest medical technologies to ensure accurate results. Diagnostic tools available in our clinic include:

  • Iliac Vein Duplex Ultrasound (IVDU): A noninvasive ultrasound procedure to detect vein compression or obstruction.
  • Magnetic Resonance Venography (MRV): Advanced imaging technology that provides detailed views of pelvic veins.
  • Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS): A catheter-based ultrasound that examines veins from within to identify abnormalities.

These advanced diagnostic techniques enable the team to pinpoint the underlying causes of PCS without going to another facility, offering a convenient way  to highly effective treatment plans.

Innovative Treatment Options for PCS

Vein Specialists offers minimally invasive treatments designed to alleviate PCS symptoms and restore normal vein function. Key treatment options include:

  • IVUS-Directed Pelvic Vein Stent Placement

Restores blood flow through balloon angioplasty and stent placement, particularly for treating iliac vein narrowing caused by May-Thurner Syndrome.

  • Transcatheter Chemical Sclerotherapy

Uses a safe chemical agent to close faulty veins, reducing pain and improving circulation.

  • Coil Embolization

Closes dysfunctional veins using a catheter and imaging guidance, an effective solution for pelvic venous reflux.

Each treatment is performed in our state-of-the-art facility, ensuring your comfort, safety and optimal outcome. Minimally invasive care. Solutions that work.

Understanding Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

You’ve probably been living with PCS symptoms for some time. PCS is often undiagnosed due to its complex symptoms and overlapping characteristics with other conditions.

PCS is most common in women who have had pregnancies, as the condition is often associated with:

  • Enlarged pelvic varicose veins caused by faulty vein valves.
  • Narrowing of the iliac vein, known as May-Thurner Syndrome, where vein compression leads to reduced blood flow.
Female With Chronic Lower Back Pain

Symptoms of Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

The primary symptom of PCS is chronic pelvic pain, which typically worsens throughout the day. Additional symptoms include:

  • Deep Pain During or After Intercourse
  • Severe Menstrual Pain
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Visible Vulvar or Labial Varicose Veins
  • A Sensation of Pelvic or Perianal Pressure
  • Irritable Bowel or Bladder Syndrome
